Glasshouse whitefly

Damage Whitefly larvae and adults suck plant juices. Mould often grows on the honeydew they secrete, which retards photosynthesis and plant respiration.


This parasitic wasp is used on a wide range of greenhouse vegetable and ornamental crops to control whitefly. Parasitized larvae turn black and are therefore easily recognized. During her life, a female Encarsia parasitizes approximately 250 whitefly larvae (maximum of 450) and kills another 30 (maximum of 70) by host-feeding.


They come as parasitized scales on little cards. You simply hang these up in the crop where they won’t get wet, with the scales facing towards the plant so they are not in direct sunlight.


It is best to introduce weekly for at least 8 weeks starting before whitefly are seen, or as soon as you catch the first whitefly on your sticky trap (you should hang these up before you plant).


As the Encarsia need to parasitize the whitefly scales, don’t remove too many leaves.


Please note that these are live creatures and on arrival the package should be opened immediately.
